Glenn Herweijer and Zula Warner (Gambit) are Artificial Intelligence, they have been releasing tracks on a variety of labels, from the dark and heavy styles of Commercial Suicide and 31 Records to the more uplifting anthems of V Recordings and Soul:r.
But just who are A.I and where have they come from? Many people believe A.I. are newcomers who have burst onto the scene in the last year or two. This newcomer tag is not accurate Zula and Glenn have paid their dues, working hard in the scene, in one shape or another, for ten years. It’s this accumulated experience and knowledge that have helped their meteoric rise from relative unknowns to one of the most prominent production duos today with their varied signature DJ sets also making them one the busiest DJ’s in the country. Out of the studio Glenn and Zula find plenty of time to satisfy their ever growing DJ commitments, A.I. are regularly headlining the top events in around the world, with leading clubs like The End, Fabric, Swerve, Movement, Faster and Breakin’ Science all calling on their DJ talents on a regular basis. Fresh from a tour of Japan, A.I. have scheduled 2 short tours of America/Canada in the second part of 2005. A.I are riding high with their current popularity and have the experience and maturity to plan ahead. Their own label Wide Screen is about to be launched with a new single called “The Big Picture”. This single has already been licensed to EA Sports for their new Fifa Soccer title, with a licence for Uprising (Overthrown VIP) on Fifa Street and plans already underway to write more music for EA Sports, A.I. have what it takes to succeed in the ever-changing music industry. Their reputation has grown with each release, fans from Fabio & Grooverider to Annie Mac to Pete Tong and Zane Lowe have all helped spread the word on BBC Radio 1. With Uprising voted by Radio 1 listeners as the Drum and Bass tune of 2004, their last 3 Singles have hit top spot in the sales chart broadcasted on both Radio 1 and 1xtra. This reputation has lead to a flurry of Major label remix requests including Kelis’s number one “Trick Me”. EMI have also employed the production talents of A.I. to produce tracks for a new artist Jenna G. Zula and Glenn sum up their ethos, "We want to spread our music to as many people as possible that's the whole reason for doing it in the first place. It's the satisfaction of making it but also of spreading it to as many people as possible. Not like a preacher or a talker on the TV. We prefer to let our music do the talking across the world, to make some kind of mark on people's minds." Artificial Intelligence have already made a hell of a mark in D&B circles, with the rest of the music industry starting to take notice, the future looks good for A.I!
