PROFILE |
|
J Majik was born in London and started his music career in the early 90's as the youngest member of the Metalheadz Kru. At the tender age of 14, J Majik made the classic 'Your Sound', which was snapped up by Goldie for his new label Metalheadz. Goldie mentored him and named J Majik the Luke Skywalker of Drum & Bass, and amongst other names like Dillinja, Photek and Doc Scott, J Majik was one of the names responsible for creating the sound of Drum & Bass.
After numerous releases on Metalheadz, Reinforced and Mo' Wax, J Majik set up his own label, Infrared, which was a catalyst for new artists such as John B, Futurebound, Sub Focus and Wickaman.
In 2002 J Majik released the groundbreaking 'Love Is Not A Game' which was picked up by the Ministry of Sound. It reached 32 in the UK top 40 charts and stayed there for over 3 weeks. J Majik then followed this up with the massive 'Space Invader' and was hailed the "Creator of Liquid" by Fabio on his BBC Radio 1 show and inspired the sound of new artists such as High Contrast and the Brookes Brothers.
J Majik takes his DJing even more seriously. He says,
"if it wasnt for the feeling I get when DJing out at the weekends then I dont think I'd have the inspiration to spend so much time in the studio doing what I do."
This attitude has taken him all over the World and he has played at some of the biggest clubs going, including a residency at Fabric in London for the last 7 years. He has also produced a string of high profile mix CDs including DMC Live, Mixmag and the Fabric Live series.
In 2008 J Majik and his good friend Wickaman released the classic 'Crazy World' on the Ministry of Sound label. Even with no video support the track reached number 29 in the UK top 40 charts and is to date the most played drum and bass tune on daytime radio on the BBC, with over 1000 plays! Since then, J Majik has worked with Deadmau5, one of the biggest stars in dance music as well as working hard on his new album, called Mosquito. The album is due for release around mid March, the first single already being released back in November, entitled 'Feel About You'. This was a huge success and was made Record of the Week by Fearne Cotton and Greg James on BBC Radio 1. Further to that achievement, it was championed by Chris Moyles (who nicknamed it 'Phil the Badger'!) who in one show played it 15 times and had over 7000 texts in 3 minutes requesting it!!
With so much new material and a live project in the pipeline, 2010 is set to be a huge year for one of the most prolific producers and DJs in the scene. You will not be disappointed.
