PROFILE |
|
After literally exploding onto the scene in 2003 with his almighty Nosher Remix, over the last two years Baron has continued to go from strength to strength with a whole host of hit records (Supernature / Guns At Dawn / At The Drive In) and remixes (Kerbcrawler / Mysterons / Turnstile): shrugging off the once desired title of breakthrough producer to become a truly respected production phenomenon worldwide.
Although nowadays very much respected as a top flight producer, Baron made his way into the scene through the use of his unstoppable talent as a DJ. His talent was first noticed by the respected promoters of Source in Oxford, a drum and bass club night that remains to be something of an institution to this very day. Source was without a doubt Barons nesting place, where he earned the opportunity week after week to warm up for just about every A-List DJ the global scene has to offer.
Whilst DJ-ing Baron constantly found himself amidst the most upfront drum and bass music on offer, which in turn gave him the desire to create some music of his own. Some of the music that was being created at the time literally left him spell bound, none more so than the music the award winning collective Total Science were making, who just so happened to be good friends of his. Thankfully, there was no limit to the encouragement the collective gave Baron, and as a result were a massive influence, but although he adored and respected their sound, Barons mission was to create and be known for his own sound, in the same way that Total Science were acknowledge for theirs.
In a short amount of time, Baron made a huge quantity of quality music, and it was no great surprise that he gave his first big track See Me Burning to those he owed so much, the track came out on Total Science's Advanced Recordings, and generated a lot of interest both on and off the dance floor, to the point that from this one production alone Baron was considered to be a name to watch, which provoked other releases on a whole host of other respected imprints including the award winning Renegade Hardware.
Off the back of his initial success, Baron spent the next 12 months living a dream, namely DJ-ing extensively around the globe playing the music he loved this included touring UK, Europe, USA and Asia. He featured on a number of tours, including the likes of CIA, Advanced, Renegade Hardware and Trouble on Vinyl amongst others. Inspired Baron went back into the studio and came out with another monster titled 'Meet The Creeper' which he again gave to Total Science but this time it was released on their most prominent imprint CIA, the sonic capacity of this tune undoubtedly was the birth of what would become Barons trademark sound.
By 2003 Barons life was truly hectic, it saw the release of his biggest selling track to date, his uncompromising remix of Total Sciences Nosher, which went on to become the rave anthem of the year, loaded into and launched from every top DJs record box including the likes of the mighty Grooverider, Andy C, Dillinja, SS, Hype, DJ Fresh and more! Previously warming up for them, Baron was now providing them with the ammunition continuously. Many thought the remix would be his pinnacle but Baron quickly proved that wasnt the case, when he penned two of the biggest tunes of the summer which were quickly snapped up by the widely respected Virus Records, owned by none other than the prominent industry figures of Ed Rush and Optical. Its important to note Virus strict A&R policy, which meant that Barons release would be the first release on the imprint for more than a year! On its release The Way It Was rocked up the BBC Drum&Bass Sales Chart to the Number 1 position, selling 10,000 copies in its first week.
It seems it was at that point that anyone who hadnt taken notice of the Baron phenomena took notice. This included the award winning producers DJ Fresh and Adam F owners of the unprecedented imprint BreakBeat Kaos. It wasnt long before Baron was presented with an offer he didnt want to refuse, the deal was struck, and before he knew it he was included on the Biggest Drum&Bass Album of the Year (BBC Radio 1) with his almighty, Shakedown which was followed by the release of his chart-topping hits: Supernature, Shakedown, Fahrenheit, Guns At Dawn, Rat pack and At The Drive In.
Although Baron has found great success with BreakBeat Kaos: given his entrepreneurial tendencies, Baron continues to run his own imprint - Baron Incorporated: which continues to go from strength to strength with the labels eighth release Bleach b/w Mission schedule for release in the first part of 2006.
All that remains to be said is if you havent seen Baron perform, you need to, its a spectacle, its a double drop extravaganza, hes something different and thats what being Baron is all about. His futures bright so watch this space.
